The BackZilla Pain Community Will Help
Starting about 14 months ago, I woke up one morning with excruciating upper back pain at the bottom of my neck between my shoulder blades.
I assumed I probably slept in a funny position causing me pain.
After a few weeks the pain was still there and had not gone down in severity at all.
My mom is a nurse and her first question is always "Honestly, on a scale of 1-10, 1 being mild pain and 10 being nearly unbearable, what would you rate the pain?"
On the first day she asked me this I told her the pain was honestly at a 9.
Three weeks later when she asked me this again the pain was honestly still at a 9.
I had a doctor's appointment coming up so she told me to mention it there.
I oddly woke up that morning with indigestion which NEVER happens. When I told my doctor about the back pain he insisted that it was referred pain from indigestion and prescribed me a medication for indigestion. I took the medication for a month, never had any indigestion problems, went back to the doctor still with back pain at a 9.
This time I saw the nurse practitioner, I told her about my back pain. She felt my back while I lowered my neck as far as I possibly could and she told me I was having muscle spasms. She prescribed me to a low dose of Flexoril.(probably mispelled)
Two months later I returned to the doctor still with back pain at a 9.
They prescribed me to Klonopin, thinking maybe my back pain was from anxiety, or that becasue of anxiety my muscles were remaining tense during sleep. So I took .5 milligrams of Klonopin before bed everynight.
Still no relief.
All along I have tried many different exercises, aerobic, light cardio, pilates and yoga, none of which have helped to even bring the pain down to a bareable level, which at this point I would consider 5 bareable.
Daily back pain of a 5 would be heaven compared to my daily back pain of a 9.
When I was younger I was involved in gymnastics and cheerleading which put a lot of strain on my shoulders, and through out those years I tore both of my shoulder muscles. The doctor at that time told me there was nothing that could be done while I was still involved in gymnastics and cheerleading because the muscles were being continuously used. When I stopped doing these activities I was under the impression that my shoulder pain would go away, but I was wrong, because I use those muscles everyday doing everyday activities such as writing, typing, lifting, driving... anything.
My point is I dont know if my back pain is related to my torn shoulder muscles.
And I guess my question is after a year of severe back pain, taking muscles relaxers, taking medications for indigestion and anxiety, and trying various types of exercise, none of which have even slightly reduced my back pain,
What else can I possibly do?
Please Help!!
